Description
William Crutchfield's color screenprint "Captain's Table II" was one of four color screenprints included in a retrospective exhibition at the Dorsky Galleries, Ltd, New York in late 1973. It is illustrated and identified as number 7 in the catalog. Crutchfield's comment on the image was "Storms are patches on the sea and in the captain's cabin coffee is served..." The composition features three teacups, the first with a ship in full sail on a calm "sea", with clouds forming above; the center cup shows the ship on a wavy sea, being struck by lightning from overhead clouds; in the cup on the right the ship has sunk, only its mast visible above the roiling water as rain continues to fall. The artist further commented: "As of my arrival in Los Angeles in 1967, aircraft, trains, ships and letter forms have been the subjects of my labors..."
