Description
The Gothic interior of St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral in Brussels, Belgium. Saints Michael and Gudula are the patron saints of Brussels and the cathedral was founded in 1047 to house the relics of both saints. Mueller uses a tint block of an ocher to subdue the towering black cathedral and create a contrast for the light pouring into the interior, for which he uses the color of the paper. Numerous black cloaked figures can be seen at the bottom of the composition.
