Description
R. G. Tonge and J.H. Van Patten joined forces in the 1920s and opened the Vanton Studios in San Francisco. Their company produced screenprinted posters, calendars, and displays for advertising but they were also committed to creating replicas of paintings. Some of the artists whose works they replicated with the velvetone (screen printing) process were Edgar Payne, Duncan Gleason and David Stirling. These works were duplicated with up to fifty colors and the production output for each one was about 2000. These were printed on artist board or canvas board and they were sold framed.
