Description
This complex and deftly rendered etching comes from the Chinatown Series that John Winkler did in San Francisco in the 1920s. While it shows up early in the artist's exhibition and checklists, it's not available in the later lists, indicating a very small edition that was never finished. Winkler's interest in capturing the vitality of cities shows in this depiction of everyday life in the famous San Francisco neighborhood, where Western and Chinese culture have merged.
