This rare Gene Kloss color monotype is quite similar in imagery to her drypoint "Desert Rhythm" (Sanchez 57, illustrated on page 39 of volume 1). It appears to have been done at a different hour of the day based upon the shadows and the vegetation that is found in the drypoint.
An extremely rare monotype by Gene Kloss. I sold this around 40 years ago for Santa Rosa collectors Robert and Evelyn McAleece who were friends of Gene and Phil Kloss and had gotten it from her. It was purchased by a friend of theirs and mine, Elizabeth Sanoff. This is from Elizabeth's estate.
Kloss experimented with a few color etchings (Sanchez 16, 46 and 159) in the 1920s and this may have been done at that time. It has a definite plate mark and was printed by a press, the corrugated lines are in the image. I dated this work based on the etching "Desert Rhythm", done in 1925.
