Description
A shrubby, high-altitude pine grows on the edge of a peak in the Sierra Mountain range near the Donner Pass. Wagener's use of negative space in the background indicates clouds or mountain range, depending on the time of year. Of note in regards to Wagener's woodengraving technique is his exclusive use of single-line as opposed to multiple-line carving tools, meaning that each line, in its delicate uniformity, is carved individually.
