Luigi Lucioni was almost unparalleled in his pursuit of the perfect rendition of nature: within the confines of an almost-12 x 9” matrix he has captured in cinematic miniature a distant town nestled in the cradle of surrounding mountains, sparing no detail, not even the moody, swiftly traveling rainclouds. As the title indicates, the jut of a white steeple rises from the central midground. Lucioni cleverly balances this manmade structure by the placement of the ancient oak in the central foreground, the two symbols of holiness echoing one another across the valley.
