Description
The signed frontispiece for "The Myth of Oedipus", a portfolio of six etchings by Kurt Seligmann with a translation by Meyer Schapiro printed by H.G. Kallweit. The portfolio was published by R. Kirk Askew, Jr., owner of the art dealing firm Durlacher Brothers in 1944. The price listed is for the complete portfolio of 6 prints. "The Artist and the Book, 1860 - 1960" by Eleanor M. Garvey for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston notes on page 192 "One of few examples of original Surrealist illustration published in the United States, and one of the first important livres de peintres in this country."
