Description
Joseph Hecht was the artist who inspired S.W. Hayter to become an engraver. Many of Hecht's subjects were drawn from the animal kingdom, often depicting the violence and struggle between beasts and beasts and humans.
This engraving of a dead boar laying on a wooden table, is remarkable for the background wall, composed of tiny engraved marks that were done by hand, not with any special tool.
Done on a beautiful, handmade Montval paper with the artist's watermark, there are creases in the image that are the result of the pressure from the press and the shrinkage of the paper.
