Hanna Greaver uses the medium of color lithography sparingly to create "Thistles". She drew the delicate structure for the image with black and filled in the color using a gray-green for the plant and a subtle purple for the flower. She floats the composition on the sheet, using the light gray color of the paper as a background.
Painter and printmaker Hanne Greaver was born Hanne Nielson in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1933 and movied to the U.S. after marrying American artist Harry Greaver in 1954. In the late 1970s the Greavers moved to Oregon, where they settled permanently in Cannon Beach. There, they opened the Greaver Gallery, where they continue to work.
