Description
According to Chamberlain, a second campaign was printed in 1936 in which the black block was recut; this appears to be a proof from that campaign, wherein the blues and greens are cooler and a circular window on the adobe wall in the lower right corner has been removed. The locale is Laguna Beach, with its early Spanish-influence architecture. Baumann made numerous auto trips to California looking for material to fill his sketch box (p. 361, In a Modern Rendering: The Color Woodcuts of Gustave Baumann).
