Description

Passing Rain, High Sierra, USA required 114 separated printing sequences and was included in Obata's portfolio of color woodcuts, World Landscape Series, America. According to Driesbach, there were reportedly 400 impressions of each of the 35 compositions made, with only the finest 100 selected for the portfolios. The project employed more than 32 carvers and 40 printers over eighteen months.

Since this impression is not signed, but has the printer's stamp on the verso, it is possibly one of the rejected proofs. The paper has a number of small, pinholes which have been expertly repaired and are not visible from the recto.

Death's Grave Pass is listed as No. 21 in Obata's World Landcape Series America and No. 13 in Obata's personal list.

It is a very fine, fresh impression.
